As a singer and composer, Jan-Martin Mächler was always interested in the literary works of Hermann Hesse. He writes “The poems that I chose for my own compositions show the whole emotional palette of human existence, with its bright as well as often darker sides. In my Hesse project a kind of story unfolds from the choice of texts”
Journalist Dr Nikolaus Gatter: “Jan-Martin Mächler, known as an oratory singer and opera tenor, has created his own musical idiom for 'his' Hesse, which amalgamates the dominant sacral musical language with elements of rock and jazz, riffs and blue notes. It is striking how Mächler theatrically adapts the work of an author who proclaimed to hardly have a relationship with the theatre.”
